Modertors: Tanja D. Conley, Boston and Jelena Ivanović Vojvodić, Belgrade
→ Cultural Centre of Belgrade, Art Gallery
This year’s discussion panel, which is dedicated to the burning issue of the refurbishment of Dobrović’s Military Headquarters, will gather architects – experts from two seemingly opposed camps: representatives of the protection of architectural-city planning heritage and the renowned designers who have had experience in the design of contemporary buildings within strict conditions and limitations of designated cultural monuments. The panel will attempt to provide an answers to the questions as to which criteria were crucial when it came to deciding whether the complex of Dobrović’s Military Headquarters should be included in the list of protected cultural goods. Furthermore, expert opinions will be given on the range and nature of the interventions which would respect the valorized properties of the Military Headquarters, and also open the possibilities for its reanimation in a contemporary context. In addition to the verbal defense of their viewpoints, the participants of the panel will present to the audience examples of newly designed realizations, which have successfully answered both the strict restoration principles, and the esthetic and pragmatic demands of the present moment.
