BINA OPEN HOUSE: MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART – CONSTRUCTION SITE TOUR
Guided by: Goran Vojvodić
→ In front of the Museum, Ušće 10, Novi Beograd
This year marks the ten years since the building of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) was closed to the public due to work on reconstruction, adaptation and extension. The Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the most representative museum buildings in Serbia, which was purpose-built (1960-1965). In 1987, the MCA was declared a cultural monument of the Republic of Serbia. The architects of the building are Ivanka Raspopović (1930-2015) and Ivan Antić (1923-2005), who, by winning the open competition in 1960, won frst prize and the possibility of project realization. In an exceptional location overlooking the river, within the previously planned museum zone, this modern edifce is the most important facility realized by modern architects – supporters of the modern school of architecture.
In addition to the organized walks during the BINA OPEN HOUSE tour, visitors will be able to get familiar with modern materials used for executing works on the interior, installations and facade, as well as the architectural challenges posed by this reconstruction.
