What happens when citizens are not supported by the state in their challenges related to inhabiting the city? How do they react and resist pressures over space?
Aleksandar and Branislav, local activists living in the Sava Blocks and engaged for years in the struggle against violent urban development in this part of the city, will take us through the places and spaces around which residents have mobilised. They will talk about how they successfully defended the Sava embankment, the ongoing struggles against illegal and speculative construction in the neighbourhood, as well as their experience of solidarity and proactive transformation.
Activists from other parts of the city will join the walk to encourage the exchange of knowledge and experience. Božena and Olga from the Ministry of Space will offer a broader urban planning perspective. The guided walks through the Sava Blocks and the Stjepan Filipović neighbourhood are part of the public programme of the exhibition From Crisis to Community: Collaborative Tactics of Inhabiting, taking place at BINA Kabina from 8 to 17 May.
