The International Exhibition of Contemporary Housing STANOVANJE–HOUSING 25, organized by the Department of Residential Buildings at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Niš, and the Urban Planning Cluster, is the sixth edition of this event dedicated to current architectural achievements in the field of housing. This biennial exhibition of innovative architectural designs, with a decade-long tradition, has become a significant and recognizable event that critically examines the development of contemporary residential architecture on the global architectural scene, following current trends in the shaping of architectural space.
The STANOVANJE–HOUSING 25 exhibition features a total of 80 projects and is programmatically divided into two sections: a general section and a thematic section. The general section presents 40 projects representing outstanding examples of contemporary residential architecture realized over the past two years—that is, in the period between two exhibitions—across diverse spatial, social, and cultural contexts worldwide. The thematic section, which also includes 40 projects, focuses on housing models with specially designed shared spaces intended for gathering and interaction among residents.
The exhibition presents works by authors from 28 countries, ranging from renowned architects to young professionals at the beginning of their careers. The international character of the program provides an opportunity for comparative insight into contemporary practice and the exchange of experience, contributing to a deeper understanding of current trends and their application in various urban environments. The exhibited projects are accompanied by reviews written by members of the International Scientific-Artistic Committee, which includes leading experts and distinguished academics from 12 countries. These reviews represent a distinctive critical and scholarly-professional analysis of developments, directions, and innovations in the field of residential architecture, taking into account diverse socio-political, economic, and cultural contexts.
Through its multidisciplinary approach, the exhibition emphasizes the theoretical and practical significance of contemporary architecture, encouraging critical reflection and the advancement of professional practice in the field of housing. Shared spaces are recognized as a key criterion of housing quality, significantly shaping community life. In conditions of increasingly pronounced individualization of urban living, they become carriers of new values such as openness, solidarity, and mutual support.
