Urban Crossover: Hopes and Fears
On Tuesday, May 5th 2026, BINA had the pleasure of publicly presenting the work of four selected LINA fellows – Walaa Hajali, Lisa van Heyden & Enno Pötschke and Nami Gradolí Giner. Hosted by the European House in Belgrade, this event gathered a large audience interested in the announced thematic framework Urban crossover: hopes and fears. The session consisted of three talks and a discussion, moderated by professor Aleksandra Stupar (University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture), on behalf of the BINA team.
Conducted within the project LINA 2.0, this part of the BINA program demonstrated the full potential of the LINA European platform, which empowers and supports emerging creatives in the field of architecture and complementary disciplines.
The invited fellows were selected according to their previous work which was in line with the theme related to the growing fears and hopes in a turbulent world – but this time, the focus was shifted to another level, highlighting the possibilities for the innovative solutions to numerous urban problems.
Through their essays and presentations, the LINA fellows addressed different spatial scales and critical issues – from climate extremes and environmental (in)justice (Walaa Hajali – Violated Waters: A Spatial Biography of Barada), spatial (dis)comfort, adaptation and resilience (Lisa van Heyden and Enno Pötschke – Remembering Heat: Bodies, Buildings, and Public Space in a Warming World), to aging and isolation (Nami Gradolí Giner – Staircase Stories). They also considered the local context and its specificities demonstrating the multimodality of generated solutions and concepts.
The discussion opened a new set of questions and insights into the relationship between fears and hopes, considered on the level of methodology, ethics, tradition, society and technology.
The interaction between the audience and the LINA fellows was dynamic, enthusiastic and comprehensive, confirming both the importance and the impact of the LINA network in facilitating the green transition and shaping a sustainable future.
