The walk includes a visit to Gardoš, from its foot at the Danube waterfront and St. Nicholas Church, along steep streets, to the Fortress, Millennium Tower and the Zemun Cemetery, with the emphasis on preserved old toponymy and on stories about notable families, citizens, and diverse nationalities living in Zemun. The purpose of this stroll in the pleasant late May evening is to discuss how much residents of Gardoš, Zemun, Belgrade, and wider, perceive Gardoš as part of their individual and collective identity. How much do we respect urban heritage of the past as individuals and as a community, what is the acceptable degree of revitalization and commercialization of the historic town core, and to what extent do we want to allow turning it into a tourist area.
