BINA WALK
Sunday, 19.6.2022, 11.00-13.00
Guided by: Bojana Ibrajter Gazibara, Belgrade City Institute for protection of cultural monuments of Belgrade
→ Terazije Fountain
Formation of the spatial, cultural and historical urban core Terazije started at the beginning of the 19th century, when urban policy of Prince Miloš Obrenović required the expansion of Varoš beyond the trench, by forced eviction of Serbian merchants from Savamala and parceling of this area that stretched from the former Stambol Gate in the Republic Square to today’s Slavija. Until then, the Terazije area had been deserted and uninhabited for centuries. With the gradual development and settlement of the wealthy people, this area acquired a more attractive appearance.
Because of their architectural and urban values, the architectural landmarks of Terazije – the Albania Building, Hotel Moskva and Terazije Fountain are important city landmarks and representative examples of Serbian architecture. A walk through Terazije architecture is dedicated to the history and urbanism of this area, its cultural monuments – Albania Building, Hempro Building, Terazije Fountain, Hotel Moskva, Pension Fund Building, Anker and Athens buildings, Krsmanović’s house at Terazije, as well as the unfinished design for Terazije terrace.
