The walk from Branko’s Bridge towards Dorćol connects three locations of public space: the international river pier, the Passarela and the Nebojša Tower, which are representative examples of public facilities on the pedestrian route of this part of the Sava riverbank. During the walk, we follow the implementation of the first three units and end with a tour of the fourth unit of the Linear Park, which is under construction. All public spaces through which we walk, as well as public facilities, were implemented by the City of Belgrade. The City of Belgrade services are responsible for the maintenance of open public spaces.
International Passenger Pier on the Sava River, (2005)
Co-authors: Milan Đurić, Aleksandar Vuja;
…The architects took advantage of the height difference of several meters between the surface of the water and the built-up coast and embedded the building there, placing it on pontoons so that it follows the horizontal of the river and in no way disturbs the recognizable panorama of Belgrade. The platform floats at the level of the ship’s lower deck, so that nothing interferes with the view of the ships moored parallel in several rows towards the middle of the river from the shore. www.oris.hr text: Snežana Ristić
Pedestrian Passarela near Beton Hala (2020)
Passarela project – Center for research and design_CIP
Sculpture authors: Mrđan Bajić and Richard Deacon / Delta Holding Foundation
The pedestrian walkway connects the old city center, i.e. the foot of the Belgrade Fortress, with the waterfront near Beton Hala over Vojvode Bojovića Street. A small bridge connects the pedestrian passarela with the parking lot on the roof of Beton Hala. The attractive shape of the winding access ramp descends around the cylindrical base of the 10-meter-high elevator shaft, on which the abstract figure “From Here to There” is placed. The structure of the pedestrian bridge is built with a combination of natural concrete and stainless steel, and the base of the artistic figure is covered with corten.
At the same time, the sculpture is a summary of the path of plastic research that began in 2006, realized in a way that is sculpturally rich from close contact with the form, but also legible when viewed from a great distance as a landmark of a new passage from the river to the Belgrade Fortress and further to the urbanized core of the city. – M. Nebojša Tower Belgrade Fortress (1640, reconstruction 2011)
Co-authors of the reconstruction: Jovan Mitrović, Dejan Miljković, Branko Pavić
In the lower part of the Belgrade Fortress, on the former Danube pier, there is one of its most famous towers, which represents one of the most important military buildings built for the city’s defense purposes.The Nebojša Tower was reconstructed in cooperation with the Serbian and Greek authorities, and since 2011 it has been functioning as a museum and cultural center. As part of this project, an annex was built in which the history of the Nebojša Tower as part of the city’s defense system and its place during Ottoman and Austrian rule was presented.
