The International Exhibition of Contemporary Housing – HOUSING 23, organized by the Department of Housing of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Niš and the Cluster of Urban Planning, is the fifth consecutive exhibition of current architectural achievements, which is a kind of manifest of contemporary designing practice and an intellectual exploration of the topic of housing. The exhibition presented the work of authors from all over the world, including both established architects and those beginning their careers, from metropolitan or local environments, and different levels of visibility on the global stage. The variety and international quality of the exhibition program facilitates a comparison of the international architectural practices and the exploration of directions and tendencies in the trade, providing an overview of the present moment and suggesting further trends in housing.
The exhibition, which includes a total of 90 projects, is programmatically divided into two units: a general and a thematic part. In the general part of the exhibition, 50 projects are exhibited, representing indicative examples of housing architecture created around the world in the period between two exhibitions, i.e. in the past two years. The special theme of this year’s exhibition is the model of low-rise high-density housing, which is shown through 40 built structures, designs, and research projects created in the past 10 years. The selected projects are accompanied by reviews provided by members of the International Scientific and Artistic Committee, which represent a kind of scientific-professional and critical reflection of the current affairs and trends in the field of residential architecture, while taking into account the diversity of the socio-political, economic, and cultural context.
