This session will take the form of a guided tour of the Genex Tower, conceived as a case study through which to explore broader questions of urban regeneration and the contemporary relevance of socialist modernist architecture. Designed by architect Mihajlo Mitrović in the late 20th century, the tower is one of the most significant architectural landmarks of New Belgrade and a symbol of Yugoslav architectural experimentation.

The program will begin with an introduction by Dejan Todorović and Snežana Zlatković, providing historical and architectural context. Participants will then walk through the building, observing a live student workshop visible from the tower’s passerelle, which interprets the spatial, cultural, and symbolic legacy of modernist architecture. Throughout the tour, the discussion will be enriched by insights from the building manager, highlighting everyday functioning, management challenges, and the ongoing transformation of the tower as a living environment.

The tour will conclude with a short presentation summarizing key observations and reflections. Together, the guided walk, the students’ interventions, and the closing discussion will address how modernist environments continue to generate new meanings and practices, positioning socialist modernist heritage as an active cultural and spatial resource rather than a closed historical chapter.
