Urban Oasis 1
Participatory urban intervention project Oasis 1 has been completed! The urban space was transformed from a neglected public space into a lively, multipurpose space for the children of the Center for Youth Integration (CIM) and for the entire neighborhood. This project represents a joint effort of the students of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade and the children of CIM to find conceptual solutions for the given space. The intervention involves the creation of a public place for various activities, by forming a wooden floor, wooden planters, benches for sitting and wooden fences. With the new planting, the place has been enriched with four new trees and many different plants. A white board has been installed on the outer wall of the CIM for future cinema shows and presentations. With new equipment, a trampoline and chairs, it will be the right place for rest, play, study, nurturing nature and socializing.

“A place of fun” is a concept that combines entertainment, learning and social integration using spatial elements to connect children of different ages with their environment through sports and art. This space has been carefully designed to provide an interactive experience that encourages exploration, play and learning. Through the garden, children have the opportunity to develop into the world of art, ecology and recycling and develop a sense of responsibility towards nature “(from student work).
Belgrade Urban Oases is a project of EUNIC Serbia, Belgrade International Week of Architecture (BINA), University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture and Forestry, Center for Youth Integration (CIM) and Center for Accommodation and Daycare for Children and Youth with Developmental Disabilities.
We would like to thank everyone who helped us realize this project: the Goethe-Institut, the Italian Institute of Culture, the Embassy of Portugal and with great help: the City Municipality of Zvezdara, PU “Belgrade Road”, PU “Putevi Beograda”, PU “City Cleanliness”, Aco company, Mapei company, Ministry of Culture of the Republic! Special thanks to students Tamara Šuljagić, Tatjana Paunić, Katarina Rančić, Marko Šepa, Katarina Nikolić, Đorđe Lazarević and colleague Dusana Nikolić!

Belgrade urban oasis 1
For children aged 7-15 years
Date and time: 3/11/2024, 9/11/2024, 15/11/2024 and 28/11/2024.
Place: Youth Integration Center (Children’s Shelter), Krfska 7a
Participants: Dusana Nikolić “La Villette” architecture studio for children and Tamara Šuljagić, student of the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade
The workshop is based on the book “Trocoscópio” by the Portuguese author Bernardo Carvalho. It is a silent book, without words, with illustrations that represent a machine that can change the world, mixing different forms, parts of objects and beings, and bringing them back, arranging them in new and unexpected configurations.

The first part of the workshop was realized so that with the help of previously prepared, two-dimensional shapes from the book, children fantasize and design three-dimensional “sculptures”. Using different forms, objects or beings are created, which children give new life to. The task of the workshop was for the children to describe what they made and what the formed assemblies are for. The combined forms create a small city.
The goal of the workshop is to encourage children to see things from a different angle, awakening creativity and noticing the transformative power of every form.
The second part of the workshop consists of joint painting of the path in front of the Inn using the drawings made by the children as models. In this way, a pedestrian path was painted that refined the space in front of the Inn and will remind of a joint venture – how through fun, work and effort the space became more pleasant and invites to socialize.

LINA conference in Sarajevo
The third consecutive LINA conference is being held in Sarajevo under the theme: Community-led architecture! United around common values and goals, cities worldwide thrived when local communities, rather than governments and corporations, took the lead in urban development. LINA 2024: Community-led Architecture underlines the importance of local communities’ role in the city’s urban development and their contribution to architectural innovation. With 25 LINA creatives and lectures by Léopold Lambert, Meriem Chabani, Irhane Šehović, and Dunje Krvavac, this year’s LINA Conference takes place on October 3 in Sarajevo.

UNDERSTANDING CITY GROWTH
Residential program / The second year
These LINA fellows worked in 2023/24 through BINA/LINA-UNDERSTANDING CITY GROWTH program:
Giulio Galasso (Italy), Alberto Roncceli & Nicole Vettore (Denmark/Italy), Maria Mendez (Spain), Nevena Delić (Serbia), Isidora Koščica, Jana Čvertkov and Lana Jeremić (Serbia), Sara Ramezani (Serbia)
We invited representatives of young creatives to Belgrade to give an insight into the development potential of Belgrade from their perspective through various media. This year, the focus is on New Belgrade, more precisely the Bežanija settlement/village and opposed brutalist mega structure of Bežanije blocks 61, 62 and 63. This border territory in permanent transformation, at the meeting point of the rural environment and the structure of mega blocks, is a great challenge for urban planners and architects. The first part of the LINA program, residency period, was dedicated to the research, meetings and workshops. During their stay, LINA fellows, in addition to the opportunity to get to know each other and exchange experiences, achieved cooperation with representatives of various institutions and organizations, local residents and representatives of different generations. The later period, upon their return, was dedicated to analyzing and defining the proposal. The last one was the joint exhibition “Understanding City Growth” during BINA 2024 festival, organized in the BINA pavilion. For the occasion of the exhibition all fellows gathered again in Belgrade to present their proposals that would contribute to improving the situation and quality of life in the neighborhood, preserving the identity of the place and transformations in accordance with the requirements of modern life and the needs of the residents.
