BINA FOCUS
ARCHITECT ALEKSANDAR STJEPANOVIĆ
→ Artget gallery, Republic Square 5/I
The exhibition Architecture of Aleksandar Stjepanović: Infrastructure of society, whose authors were Jelica Jovanović, Relja Ivanić and Marko Kažić, was produced as part of the 14th BINA 2019 and was focused on the architectural work of one of our most important architects. The post-war enthusiasm in the restoration and construction of Europe included the expansion of the building of educational, residential architecture and accompanying facilities. Yugoslavia did not lag behind: a new maxim of those times – 8 hours of work, 8 hours of leisure and 8 hours of sleep – also entailed spatial capacities within which such new life was to take place. In several decades, the country saw maximal investments per person in education and housing, which resulted in the release of an immense creative potential of the new generation of architects and, eventually, in the building of supreme architectural and urban planning works. Both as an author and co-author, Aleksandar Stjepanović was one of the most significant representatives of that epoch and that type of architecture, whose specific creative and recognizable tangible expression multiply improved and innovated the typologies which had been only too often reduced to standardized buildings, designed according to the “catalogue”.
The exhibition was followed by a series of lectures, panel discussions, workshops for adults and children, and walks, with the aim of gaining additional insight and deepening knowledge about the achievements of the architect Stjepanović in the field of residential architecture, as well as designed facilities for child protection, schooling and higher education.
EXHIBITIONS
NEW TRADITION: NEW TRADITION: At a table with Architecture and Art from South Tyrol
→ Art Gallery, 6 Knez Mihailova St
The format New Tradition follows up to the successful exhibition “Hosting the Dolomites – Appropriation of Space 7/7”, shown in Moscow, Vienna, Zagreb and Thessaloniki between 2016 and 2018. The re-adaptation of the exhibition concept aligns to the Theme of the BINA 2019 “Positive and Active”, fostering a deeper relation to the cultural and build environment, showing 8 architecture and 8 art positions. The exhibition concept rests upon the well-known hospitality of South Tyrol by expressing its cultural and multi-lingual character. As being a three-language speaking region, with a many faceted cultural scene, the exhibition aims to extend an invitation at the common table. Visitors take a seat at the big table, where architectonical and artistic dishes are served (exhibited).

SHARED CITIES CREATIVE MOMENTUM – SCCM
Project presentation and panel discussion
Shared Cities Creative Momentum (SCCM) is a European cultural platform within the Creative Europe program that is reconsidering the contemporary urban challenges of European cities. After the first successfully realized project within this platform, at BINA 2017, Urban Hub 1 – Plateau, at this year’s BINA, Urban Hub 2 – Multifunctional Spot was presented. The project was realized in cooperation with NGO Škogled, Goethe-Institut and the “Vlada Obradović Kameni” Primary School. Urban Hub 2 – Multifunctional Spot was a collectively conceived intervention in a schoolyard – a summer classroom in the open air, in the Ledine residential area, aimed at improving the quality of life in a community. The focus of the panel discussion was on spaces of productivity – urban development based on spaces of productivity emphasizes the need for a radical reorganization of society in order to achieve sustainability. Productivity spaces work against consumerism and commodification, as starting points for city planning that provide opportunities to improve the lives of all citizens, with less consumption and more production.
